Pregnancy
Pregnant women are frequently advised by their dentists to put off having
implants until at least three months after they have given birth.
Severe Arthritis
Those who have severe arthritis in their hands and fingers may not be good
candidates for dental implants because they lack the dexterity to properly
clean them. It is essential that implants be cleaned on a regular basis in
order to keep the surrounding bone and gum tissues healthy.
Poor Oral Hygiene
Diabetes
Those with diabetes are another group that is often advised by their dental
professionals against having dental implants. However, advances in modern
dentistry have changed this scenario somewhat in recent years. For instance,
those with type II diabetes who commit to a healthier lifestyle are perfectly
viable candidates for dental implants, and there are advanced technologies
available that are currently being used with some success on diabetic patients
who are insulin dependent and/or significantly overweight.
Heavy Smoking
Depression
Although no physical reason exists why those diagnosed with depressive disorders
should not have dental implant treatment, depressed individuals have
statistically been highly likely to neglect grooming and hygiene tasks.
However, this is a decision that each individual should make with the
assistance and advice of a qualified professional.
